Job Storage For The Mall Operator

BEFORE YOUR START

Please read the section from The Network concerning job storage on your Wizzard/XL. It contains the reasoning/facts for the procedure I am about to discuss.

Why ‘For The Mall Operator’, and not for everyone? A booth, store, or kiosk in a mall is in a impulse environment, and must produce products as fast as possible. Can you image your trips to the mall during Christmas? You expect your product to be done instantly. For this reason the mall operator must be prepared.

GETTING STARTED

Most of us expect the Wizzard to store jobs like a computer stores files. Save over, delete, rewrite, etc. The Wizzard does not save jobs like a computer. It stores data on an EPROM, not a disk, and it definitely has some limitations. Therefore you must follow the following criteria. If you own a Wizzard you can only save 40 jobs or 160 lines, and they can never be written over. On the XL you can save 20 jobs or 160 lines per cartridge, and they can’t be written over. Forget what the book says - it’s wrong. Sometimes it works and sometimes it scrambles your storage area.

And even if you follow my suggestions, the chips can still fail. As a Dahlgren salesman once said - ‘they’re like light bulbs. Sometimes they just wear out’.

If I owned a mall operation, I would first make index card for each job of every item I planned to engrave that was in my store. I would engraved a few samples, and if necessary adjust the baselines, letter heights, etc. Then I would store the layouts I used most often, remembering the limitation of my Wizzard. Remember, once the jobs have been input/stored, they should not be changed.

And with the index card system, you always have a backup when your chips fail.

ULTIMATE PROTECTION

If you have multiple operations, or just want further protection from interruptions when your chips fail, their is a way to protect yourself further. Once your Wizzard internal chips or XL storage cartridge have been ‘programmed’ with the jobs you will be using, you can send the XL cartridge or Wizzard chips back to the Network and we will duplicate it on another set of chips or cartridge. You will only be charged for the price of a new cartridge, or Wizzard chips. We will also save the files in case you need additional storage devices. Just give us a call and we will send out a set of new chips with your jobs already programmed.
