Step By Step
On the Job Set-Up screen, toggle to Extend-A-Plate table at the top of the screen using the space bar. When this option is selected the engraving is automatically set to left sideways engraving. If you need to do an Extend-A-Plate with normal upright engraving, for items such as a plaque, goto the Job Option screen and select upright engraving instead of left sideways.
Input the plate height and width on the Job Set-Up screen. If engraving left sideways the plate height limit is 8" and the width is 48". If engraving in normal upright, the limits are 48" for the height and 8" for the width.
Set up the job as you normally would.
Mount the fence on the Extend-A-Plate subtable. This is the long bar that mounts from front to back and slides from left to right.
Spread clamping bars apart as if you were going to put in a piece of material 5 inches tall and remove the clamping bars. After the clamping bars are removed you will see 4 pins that stick up where the clamping bars were mounted (2 on each side). On the back of the Extend-A-Plate subtable you will notice 4 small holes. These are the holes where the pins fit into the subtable to hold it. Mount the subtable on the Wizzard making sure the pins go in the holes and tighten the vise to hold the subtable in place.
When you compute the job to engrave, the Wizzard will display the measurements for each section. You will need to mark the plate before putting it on the extend-a-plate subtable. If you are doing an Extend-A-Plate in the left sideways mode. Lay the plate in front of you so the length of the plate is horizontal in front of you. Start your measurements from the top left hand corner of the plate and place a mark along the top edge with a pencil as indicated by the measurements displayed on the Wizzard. When doing a plate in normal up-right extend-a-plate mode, lay the plate in front of you so the length of the plate is vertical in front of you. Start the measurements from the top left corner of the plate and work your way down toward the bottom. Place a mark down the left hand side of the plate as indicated by the measurements displayed on the Wizzard.
Make sure you are in the left sideways mode, then mount the plate. Align the first mark of the plate with the 5 inch ruler mark on the fence. If you find the plate is not long enough to fit under the front or rear bar clamps, secure the Wizzard will start to engrave. It will stop after it completes section 1 and display the message "Waiting to engrave section 2". At this time move the plate toward you until the second mark on the plate is aligned with the 5 inch ruler mark on the fence. Repeat this procedure until the Wizzard has finished engraving all the sections. If you are engraving a plate in the normal up-right mode, the first mark on the plate needs to be lined up with the 0 inch ruler mark on the fence. As the Wizzard prompts you to move the plate, the plate will be moved toward the back of the machine instead of to the front as in the case of left sideways. Repeating sections will be lined up with the 0 inch ruler mark until the Wizzard has finished all the sections.
Engraving Tip
When the Wizzard displays the measurements for each section, they are displayed in a decimal format. This makes it difficult to accurately mark the plate for each section with a standard ruler.
Change the display from inches to millimeters before computing the job. Now when the Wizzard displays the section measurements after computing the job, they will be in even millimeters. Most standard rules have metric markings on the back and the plate can be marked easily and accurately.
Wizzard Subtable with Vacuum Insert - Not only for Extend-A-Plate!
The subtable is invaluable when working with the extend-a-plate feature of the Wizzard XL which allows engraving of plates up to 8" x 48". However, it also offers Wizzard users a host of other advantages. It fits onto any Wizzard and is easily removable should other jigs be needed. The Wizzard subtable with vacuum insert saves clamping time when engraving, burnishing or doing diamond-drag on flat surfaces, as well as providing a far superior setup than the conventional Wizzard scale bars.
Simply place your engraving object on the vacuum-table, start the vacuum (with the vent just below the monitor) and engrave!
The table accepts objects with unlimited length (the scale bar is removable), and up to 11" wide. The full 5" x 8" engraving area of the Wizzard can be utilized. The area between the edge of the sign and the beginning of text (margins) is usually not engraved. Setting up so that this area is outside the engraveable area, signs up to 6" x 10" can be easily engraved!
Further, the sign will be supported by a flat surface while being engraved. Problems associated with bending of the engraving object caused by the down-pressure of the spindle (resulting in "tears") are eliminated. Another problem removed is the nose cone bumping into the scale bars when text is placed close to the margins.
Increase your Wizzards abilities and your productivity NOW, treat yourself to a sub table with vacuum-insert.
