Exhaust
to properly exhaust fumes and smoke from the laser engraving system during operation, it is necessary to provide an exhaust unit moving a minimum of 200 CFM (cubic feet per minute) at 6 inches of static pressure. ULS systems are designed with internal cooling and do not require the exhaust to be constantly running, thus saving on utility costs. [Additional specifications for measured distances.]
|
- CFM- cubic feet of airflow per minute, unit of measurement is CFM. To determine amount of cubic feet needed, find the volume of space that is going to be hooked up to the exhaust system.
- VFM- volume of airflow per minute, unit of measurement is VFM. The amount of air that is flowed by the exhaust system in one minute’s time. The speed in other words.
- Static Resistance/Pressure- is the resistance of airflow, measured in inches of water. Static Pressure has a direct effect on all other factors in the exhaust system. No static resistance will cause a motor to burn up because the motor will have no load on it. A gate is a good way to create static resistance in an exhaust system.
- The easiest way to explain static resistance is to think of a water facet. With no water hose attached, the water just dumps out of the facet. When a hose is attached, the water flows with more control. A gate is just like putting your finger over the hole at the end of the hose. When this happens the water spews out at a high rate. When a gate is installed the VFM of the exhaust system is greatly increased, and the motor will not run at full throttle which will make it last longer.
