ULS Bearing & Motion System Design

ULS has been using the same basic design of motion system and bearings since the company was started back in the late 80's. The original design was based on high speed stainless steel sealed precision bearings and a special polycarbonate wheel which rode on the motion system rail. Over the years, the design has been refined and fine tuned to offer the best combination of performance, longevity, ease of maintenance, life span and low cost/ease of replacement that is available on any laser engraving system on the market.

Many other designs have been assessed by ULS over the last 11 years, but given equal running conditions, our development engineers have determined that the existing design still offers the customer the best combination of performance and quality.

There are many reasons for our continued use of this design, so much so that ULS patented the V-groove rail system. The design follows the ULS philosophy of making improvements and slow changes to existing designs rather than scrapping an entire design and starting from scratch. The design of our motion system is so good that our competitors are constantly changing their entire design with every new model in order to find some way of equaling a design they cannot use due to our patents.

Our designs have stood the test of time, and customers can be assured that they are not going to be used as guinea pigs for a new design with unknown longevity and performance.

Things to consider when looking at the motion system and bearing design -

1. Does it allow for smooth motion?
2. What is the maintenance procedure?
3. Are the bearings completely sealed from contamination?
4. Do the bearing need lubrication?
5. What is the procedure for bearing replacement?
6. What is the out of warranty replacement cost of the bearings?
7. How long has this design been used in a laser engraving system?
