System 1/100 Adjusting The Ball Slide Pre-Load

Before starting, make sure the Cutter Up/Down Switch moves the spindle up and down, and air pressure is at 40 lbs. Also flush with silicon spray and work up and down.

If you find that you are adjusting your ball slide more than once or twice a month, replace.

Follow the steps below to adjust the ball slide pre-load:

  • Screw the spring pressure adjustment ring up as far as possible to take all of the pressure off of the pneumatic spring.
If the spring still has tension, you will need to loosen the Air Cylinder Clamping Screw that holds the brass pneumatic cylinder in place. Note the position of the pneumatic cylinder relative to the cylinder clamp so that you can return it to its original position after the ball slide adjustment is complete. You might want to mark the current position with a pencil or marker.
  • There are four set screws located on the left side of the ball slide assembly. Start by tightening only the top set screw
Excessive tightening of the adjustment screws in the ball slide can result in damage to the ball slide.

Press the cutter down to send the spindle assembly to the down position.

Note: If you Home position is at 0/0 (over the table), you will need to move the table so that the spindle can drop down below the surface of the table during the cleaning process. Be sure and reset Home when you have completed this procedure.
  • If the spindle assembly goes all the way down you do not have the set screw tighten enough. Send the cutter up and retighten. If the spindle does not go all the way down, proceed to the next step.
  • Loosen the set screw you are working with about 1/16 of a turn. Press the Cutter Down switch. (On the System 1, you will have to hold it down). If the spindle goes down to the bottom of it's travel, it is adjusted properly.
  • If not press Cutter Up. Loosen the set screw another 1/8 of a turn and retry. Continue this process until the cutter drops down.
  • Sometimes when then the spindle drops, it is not at the bottom of its normal full travel. With your thumb, press down on the spindle to make sure it is all the way down. If it moves downward when you press on it, you need to send the cutter up and repeat step 5 until the cutter goes all the way down without your help.
  • Repeat this procedure for the remaining three ball slide set screw
