Using The Pointer Jig

Here are three reasons to use the Pointer Jig:

  1. To set up a jig you only want to use once and don't want to save.
  2. To set up a jig for an odd-shaped item.
  3. To avoid complex measurements and calculations.

To Set Up The Pointer Jig:

For the example use a Texas shaped plate.

After your plate is mounted, decide where you want the text to appear on your plate. Using masking tape as I have in the illustration, box off the general area to be engraved. This box is your plate size, not the entire plate of Texas.

  1. Enter height and width of the engraving area marked off. Complete the layout, including the text to be used.
  2. Press the SET JIGS key; the Set Jigs screen appears.
  3. Press ENTER to move to the jig selection line.
  4. Press `P'. You can also get to the P jig by toggling with the SPACEBAR.
  5. Press the Up Arrow key to move the cursor to the top line.
  6. Using your arrow keys, move your locating rod or diamond graver tip to the top left corner (designated by arrow in illustration) of the engraving area on the Texas plate.
  7. Write down the settings in case you need to go back and adjust you layout, or you will need to use the same parameters in a later session. You have completed the setting of the pointer jig. If you should try to save the jig while in this screen, you will get the warning ``Cannot Save Pointer Jig''. This jig setting will stay in effect as long as you are using the P jig in Job Option screen. Once the machine is turned off or RESET, you will lose the setting.
  8. Press the JOB OPTION key. The spindle will move to Home position, and Jig P will be the displayed jig.
  9. Now compute and engrave your job. Remember, your plate size is the actual area marked off within the masking tape (see illustration).

The pointer jig is the only setting for the Wizzard systems (XL & II) which has a starting point at the top left of the plate. All other starting points (and jig settings) for the Wizzard's are from the top, center.
