Most tables are really not unlevel, and are attributed to one or more of the following causes:
- Improperly squared cutter.
- Plate bows or sags because plate is over tightened, or plate is not cut squarely.
- Subtable, or Extend-A-Plate table is not mounted properly.
- Tape of other debris is under the A/B jigs, Subtable, or Extend-A-Plate table.
Before trying this procedure, make sure your cutter box gap is equal as explained in Squaring Your Cutter
Step By Step
- To see if your table is level, set up a job that you can engrave several letters in each corner of your 5 by 8 engraving area.
- Adjust your diamond so that the engraving will be very light when engraved. To do this, Set up a job, press COMPUTE, press the PAUSE key, press the START key. After the Wizzard pauses over the first character to be engraved, hold down on the Cutter-Down key, (on the Wizzard XL's Plus, press the Cutter-Down key and then release it)
- This will bring the engraving spindle down to the bottom of its fullest travel and then lower your engraving spindle down until your diamond just touches the engraving surface.
- Tighten up your spindle at this point.
- Have the diamond just barely touch the engraving material at the bottom of its fullest travel while engraving to be able to adjust your engraving table accurately. Release the cutter down key and then the PAUSE key and engrave this job to see if the Wizzard engraved the letters in each corner. If not, add a strip of tape (masking) under your plate holders and on the engraving table corners that did not engrave.
- Then re-engrave the job again. Keep adding tape to the corners that the engraving is not being engraved until all letters are engraved. Most Wizzard tables run downhill, from left to right. After you have adjusted your table, leave this tape on permanently.
Alternative Leveling
- While the following is an alternative method for leveling your table, you can cause serious damage to the Y-axis bridge. Please use caution if you decide to use this procedure.
- You can adjust your table another way, but you will have to take off the Wizzard cover. At the front and rear of your Y Axis Table there are 4 screws (at the rear of the table, there is a ground wire under one of the screws). Loosen them and twist your table to the left or right ever so slightly and then retighten the screws. After adjusting, you will have to go through your engraving procedure like you did before to see if the engraving will engrave evenly on all 4 corners.
