Setting Up A Column Layout

We will be using the same auto-layout that we used earlier. setting up this column layout requires you to go to the job set-up screen and change your height to 8 inches and your width to 5 inches. you also have to go to the job option screen and change your engraving to right-sideways.

On the Wizzard, Wizzard 2 and Wizzard XL, Press the Shift Auto-layout keys and toggle to Create Auto-layout. On the Wizzard XL Plus, press the Auto-layout key and toggle to Create Column Layout and press the Enter key.

This Is The Screen That You Should Have To Begin Our Column Layout

On this column layout, we will have 30 names (15 on each side of your plate) and 3 lines of text above with six tenths of a margin at the top and bottom and six tenths between your top 3 lines of text and your 30 names. The left, center and right hand margins will have equal spacings of four tenths each.We will have 3 different layouts, using Tic pair A, (to put in the first 15 names in the lower right) Tic pair B (to add the 15 names on the left to the 15 on the right) and Tic pair C. (to add 3 lines of text to the 30 names below)

We will begin by putting in the 15 names in the lower right hand side. Press the Enter key to put the cursor under the # of lines and type in 15.

Press the Enter key and the cursor advances to the letter height. (The Wizzard automatically reduces your letter height to fit 15 lines of engraving into the 8 inch area) Like the layout before, we will bypass the letter height for now to allow the Wizzard to continue to help us determine our final letter height.

Press the Enter key and the Wizzard is asking our top margin. Type in 3.000 and press Enter.

To get the same margin in the center (between the columns) as the left and right margin, Divide the width of the plate by 2 and add one half of either your left or right hand margin. This plate is 5 inches wide, so one half is 2.5 inches. Our margins are.4 (four tenths), so one half of .4 is .2. Add 2.5 and .2 and you come up with 2.7, which will be our left hand margin. Type it in and press the Enter key.

Type in .6 as our bottom margin and press Enter.

Your right hand margin is .4, type it in and press the Enter key.

Looking at the letter height, you will see it has now been reduced down to .293. There is also no space between the lines of engraving. To put space between the lines of engraving, send your cursor back to your letter height and reduce it 30 to 50%. On this layout, make the letter height .2 to match our drawing, and then press the Enter key.

If you would like to see what you have so far, press the Shift-Enter keys.

We are now ready to make our layout on Tic Pair B, So send your cursor back to the top of the screen.

Press the Space Bar until the first line reads, Press Enter For New Tic Pair

Press the Enter key to change from Tic Pair A to Tic Pair B

Press the Space Bar until the first line reads: Enter Info for Tic Pair B.

To put in the names on the left, we will just reverse your left and right hand margins.

To what you have created so far, press the Shift-Enter keys

We are now ready to put in the lines of text above your names with Tic Pair C, So send your cursor back to the top of the screen and press the space bar until the first line reads: Press Enter for new Tic Pair

After changing to Tic Pair C, Press The Space Bar until the first line reads: Enter info for Tic Pair C and then press Enter

Type in 3 for the number of lines and then press Enter

Type in .4 for a letter height and press Enter

To keep the margin at the top of the plate the same as the bottom margin, type in .6 and press Enter

Leave your left hand margin on .4 and press Enter

Earlier when we put in our top margin of 3 inches, that left us with 5 inches of material left at the bottom to put in our names. To have a margin of .6 between our names and the text above, add .6 to the 5 inches we used for our names, which now gives us a bottom margin of 5.600. Type in 5.6 and press the Enter key.

On your right hand margin, type in .4 and press Enter.

To see your layout, press the Shift-Enter keys. If everything is satisfactory,

Send your cursor back to the top of the screen and toggle thru until the first line reads: Use This Auto-Layout

Press the Enter Key and after the warning, Press the Shift-Enter Keys.

The Text is put in just like we made our layout, with Tic Pair A first followed by Tic Pair B and then Tic Pair C.

Press the Shift Job Set-Up keys to type in just your text.

Most engravers agree that your names should all be Left Justified and the 3 lines of text above should be Center Justified. To make your plate more presentable, take the longest name in Tic Pair A and Tic Pair B and stretch it out as far as possible and then stretch the other names in Tic Pair A and Tic Pair B the same amount.

Column 1 left margin is 0.400, right margin is 3.100

3/4 of 4 inches is 3.000 1/4 of .4 is .1 3.000 + 0.100 = 3.100

Column 2 left margin is 1.300

1/4 of 4 inches is 1.000 3/4 of .4 is .3 1.000 + 0.300 = 1.300

right margin is 2.200

1/2 of 4 inches is 2.000 1/2 of .4 is .2 2.000 + 0.200 = 2.200

Column 3 left margin is 2.200

1/2 of 4 inches is 2.000 1/2 0f .4 is .2 2.000 + 0.200 = 2.200

right margin is 1.300

1/4 of 4 inches is 1.000 3/4 of .4 is .3 1.000 + 0.300 = 1.300

Column 4 left margin is 3.100

3/4 of 4 inches is 3.000 1/4 of .4 is .1 3.000 + 0.100 = 3.100

right margin is 0.400

As appeared in Dahlgren Notes

Left Sideways Mode

This mode is the default mode for this feature. It will engrave plates up to 8" H by 48" W. The Wizzard XL’s will turn the characters left sideways and engrave the job in sections that meet the standard plate size of 5" x8".

Normal Upright

This mode allows the engraver to complete jobs that have larger plate heights than plate widths.

Change the standard plate mode in the Job Set-Up screen to Extend-A-Plate mode, hit the Job Option key.

In the Job Option screen, hit Enter until the cursor is placed at the Left Sideways position. Change this mode to Normal Upright with the space bar.

The engraver will beep at you as the plate size exceeds the Default settings.

Return to the Job Set-Up screen and change the plate size to the required size. Example 10"H x 8" W. This will discontinue the warning beep.

Proceed with Job Set-Up.

The computer will now break the jobs into segments that are separated between lines not characters as it is done in Left Sideways Mode.
