CorelDRAW'S X3 Features - Fillet/Scallop/Chamfer Docker

Before we introduce the new Fillet/Scallop/Chamfer Docker in X3, I want to show the old method we had to endure in CD12 and prior versions. Our finished example to the left is a standard name tag with 1/4” rounded corners.

Creating rounded corners with precision has never been easy in CorelDRAW prior to X3. Corner Roundness appeared as the obvious answer, but it definitely has some quirks. Drawing a square, and rounding the corners worked as shown in the example to the left. But if you resized the rectangle, the corner roundness conformed to the original object. And, even if you didn’t have to resize, what was the relation ship of the corner roundness - percentage of what?.

To duplicate an existing 1 x 3 plate with 1/4” rounded corners requires too much work. I’ve shown each step to the left on separate corners. The standard job requires you to do these steps on each corner of the rectangle.
1. After you draw the rectangle (and don’t resize), draw a ½ inch ellipse and align it to the corner.
2. With the Shape Tool, create the radius from the ellipse.
3. Convert the rectangle to a curve, and with the Shape Tool break the rectangle. Snap the points of the rectangle to the points of the ellipse (radius).

With the new Fillet/Scallop/Chamfer Docker in X3. It’s quick and easy. Just create the rectangle. Enter the Radius in the Fillet/Scallop/Chamfer Dialog, and Apply

The finished name tag with 1/4" corners. Note: If you resize the rectangle after you have applied the Fillet, it will lose it’s precision.
